Tom Roberts on Louis Armstrong: Part 2

  • Mt. Lebanon Public Library 16 Castle Shannon Boulevard Pittsburgh, PA, 15228 United States (map)

Following the May 3 first part of this series, part two will focus on Louis as he becomes an American icon: a popular recording star, movie star, and America’s ambassador of goodwill.

We will listen to his big band recordings made for Okeh, Victor, and Decca. See excerpts from his numerous film appearances and witness the creation of The All Stars, the group with whom he toured the world until the end of his life.

We will also discover the complexities of this great man as he becomes involved in civil rights and discover his other passions and talents such as writing and collage artist.
